Summary : small glowing ball of light hovering over a heavily wooded area
Me and 4 friends were camping when one freind noticed a bright blue light on the
horizon. The object was several miles away and moving towards us. It moved closer at
a somewhat slow pace. The object stopped and hovered about 20 yards above the
trees about a quarter mile away. The object seemed to be ball shaped, emmiting a blue
glow, with three white lights encircling the object. It hovered there for about 2 minutes,
motionless, then slowly began to rise. The object emmitted no sound, and headed
straight up. It angled slightly to the west and began moving very fast away from us. In a
few seconds it was out of sight. Believe me this sighting was very real!

June '97 Reports

A UFO was sighted Monday, June 16, at 11:10 p.m. near St. Hilaire, MN.

St. Hilaire is located south of Thief River Falls in northwestern Minnesota. Three Newfolden girls spotted the UFO as they were driving west on County Road 3, coming from Grand Forks, ND. The UFO followed adjacent to their car, about 300 feet from it, as they drove north from St. Hilaire to Thief River Falls. They were driving at 60 mph and the UFO kept pace with the car for about 3 miles. Other drivers also saw the UFO, but none have come forward. The driver, age 21, contacted Pennington and Marshall County sheriffs' departments. The National Weather Service and the Grand Forks Air Force base had no reports of the UFO as of the writing of the sighting. The UFO was reported to be a 100-foot disc bright enough to light up the immediate area. It was of a shiny silver metal with windows around it and a red light at the rear.

UFOs ACTIVE ON WISCONSIN'S LAKE MICHIGAN SHORE

On Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at about 5 p.m., Rev. Billy Dee was driving home on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula, "leaving the outskirts of the city of Sturgeon Bay (population 8,847)."
As he looked up "into the clear blue sky," Rev. Dee saw "a metallic object that was brightly illuminated by the sun but also threw off its own light. Although small, about the size of a small hen's egg, it was clear and vivid...It was the classic saucer shape craft...At first I thought it may be a small one-engine plane. But I soon gave up that thought, as I viewed the craft for over two minutes before it vanished. I can only describe it as what I saw was dazzling and beautiful, and mind- boggling." (Email Interview)
On Saturday, June 14, 1997, at 3:45 p.m., William H. and his friend Julie were "sitting outside on our friends' porch" in the city of Milwaukee (population 636,212) when Julie spotted something strange in the sky over Lake Michigan.
"Julie says, awestruck, 'Oh, my God, look at that!'" Mr. H. recalled. "At that point we both sprang from our chairs and stared at an erratic bright yellow/orange light doing crazy spirals. And then it slowed down a little and dropped out of the sky. What I want to know is if anybody else witnessed what we saw?" (Many thanks to Steve Wilson and Skywatch International for this report. And UFO Updates.)

 Occurred : 6/1/1997 14:00 (Entered as : 6/1/97 2pm)
 Posted : 1/28/1999
Location : Greenfield, suburb of Milwaukee, WI
Summary : Noticed a very large, slow moving, reddist tinted object in the northern sky.
It appeared to have 2 smaller objects flying around it. Fom my point it appeared that
the object was about 150 ft up and approximately 1/2 to 1 mile long. No noticeabe lights.
At about 2 pm, I noticed a _very_ large object north of my apartment. It appeared to
have a reddish hue, and was moving fairly slow, but steadily towards the east.I then
noticed two smaller objects circling around it and managed to see one of the objects
through my 4.5" telescope. Although I couldn't keep it in the field of view long, it
appeared to be somewhat like an airplane, but more like "ship" shaped. From the fact
that these two objects were flying around the main object, and I live close to an airport
and see air traffic all the time, the main craft must have been anywhere from 1/2 to 1
mile long. I could only see the edge and it was fairly thin, probably 40-50 feet.Anyway,
it was huge. I would like to know if anyone else in the area reported anything. The
thought occured to me that it could have been one of those advertising banners, but
I did not see anything pulling it and on second thought it was far too big to be a banner.

Location : Lake Winnibigoshish (North Central MN), MN
Summary : Brite orange glowing object passed overhead.

At 12:30am on July 30, 1997 while watching a meteor shower on the
shore of Cutfoot Sioux, I observed an object that appeared in the
south east sky. At first it was a small orange body giving me the
impression that I was looking at another meteor, but the object just
got larger and brighter. After seeing the object grow in size and
brightness it continued to travel across the sky with a slight wobble
in it path (like viewing a object through hot air). This wobble
lasted for about 30 seconds then it continued to travel in a stright
line. Its speed also slowed down as it crossed the sky. As it passed
overhead the bright orange glow started to disapate. This allowed
me to make out a flashing light on the upper surface of the craft
the light flashed about every second. The craft passed overhead at
about 10,000 feet. As the craft disappeared into the trees behind
the campsite, I heared the slight roaring sound of jet engines.
Flight path was from the south east to the north west. No sonic booms.
Are we testing aircraft that can fly after entering atmosphere?

Boating on Lake Minnetonka in MN on warm summer night, skies clear,
fireball appeared travelling from East to West at about 60 degrees
from the Zenith. A booming sound was heard, but it was muffled. The
fireball started out as yellow, then turned orange, with a green
tail spreading out about the width of a full moon. The green color
dissapated slowly and appeared to phosphoresce as it faded. Total
time streaking across the sky was about 6 seconds. The phosphorescence
lasted an additonal 4-5 seconds. I tried to get the attention of the
other boater before it faded, but, insofar as he was turned northward,
and the object was at about 60 degrees up in the Southern sky, he did
not turn and focus in time to see the whole thing. The boat engine
did sputter and almost quit when the object crossed the sky, but ran
 o.k. thereafter.

I saw four silver colored (like when the sun shines on an airplane)
capsule shaped objects that were traveling east to west, very fast.
They were traveling in a capsule sitting vertical position as they
moved from east to west. They evetually disappeared into the western
horizon. Nothing Real dramatic in their appearance or movement other
than they were moving very fast, and they were defintely not
 airplanes.

First I saw one capsuale shaped object. It was silver color, like
when the sun shines on an airplane. It was traveling from east to
west. What really caught my attention was that this capsule shaped
object was traveling east to west with this capsule shape positioned
vertical. I was walking to my vehicle where my friend was waiting,
still watching as I walked to my vehicle. My friend and I proceeded
to watch and have a discussion about this object, and the
possibilities of what it might be when I got in my vehicle. Meanwhile,
it had traveled closer to the horizon. Suddenly there were two more
of same objects that our eyes had now been drawn to. They were almost
at the edge of the horizon. They were traveling even with each other
side by side. They were also traveling east to west like the first
one. Which was sitll traveling in same direction towards the other
2 in the western horizon. They were all traveling very fast. What we
both saw next Immediately Eliminated a lot of the possibilities of
what we thought these objects might be. It was another capsuale
shaped object dropping straight down into our atmosphere. The reason
I can say this with confidence is that it was sparking, and it was
red hot in color. It appeared to then just stop moving momentarily.
It cooled quickly as I saw it change color from this red hot look
to the silver color like the other three. Once it changed to this
silver color it started moving east to west in same direction as the
other 3 objects. Same speed very fast in a straight east to west
direction. We watched them all move straight from the east into
the western horizon untill we lost site of all four as they
dissapeared into horizon. I am a tool and die maker. My friend is
a printer. I'm still curious as to what they might have been. They
 where definitely not airplanes.

UFO FLIES OVER CITY IN EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA

On Sunday, July 27, 1997, at 11:05 p.m., a man in Valley City, North Dakota (population 7,774) spotted "an object...straight overhead, traveling from the southeast to the northwest in a relatively straight line. The object first appeared to be a beacon or white light flashing like a rotating lighthouse at intervals, about two times every second, very bright, not a strobe but a very gradual burst of light."
"I have seen many satellites and aircraft in my years that did not look like this at all." The UFO, as it passed overhead, "changed its cadence of light every three or four seconds between 'bursts,'" repeating these changes "for nine seconds before it vanished" among the stars of the constellation Cassiopeia. I saw a bright green fireball streak across the sky a few nites ago. I live in downtown Mpls while looking out my window which is on the 6 floor across from the church and Convetion Center with a western view. At the above time I noticed a bright green ball of fire go from east to west and disappear, it seemed to curve and if I held out my fist arms length the object would be bigger then my fist. Any other reports of this?

I was driving with my son and noticed what I thought was a plane, but wondered
why it was so low above the tree line...the as it moved SE (I was heading south) it
appeared to be a brillant, metalic, somewhat flat object. I hurried to where I could
stop and observe, but it was gone. My son did not see it as he has poor sight. I am

Man Reports UFOs in county
No blips on radar detected
by Rob Young, staff writer

TOWN OF FRANKLIN - It might be time to start a new
X-file -- this one to be filed under "Manitowoc County".
A town of Franklin man, who said that until Saturday night
he leaned toward believing in UFOs, said Wednesday he's
leaning a lot further after he and his family saw two UFOs
near their rural home within 20 minutes.

He described the first object as large and trianglar with
three reddish-orange lights. He and his two suns spotted
it from their van while driving home at about 11:35pm.
It hovered silently for about 15 seconds then disappeared
descending rapidly.

About 20 minutes later, the family of six was sitting in its
living room when his daughter saw the second UFO --
this one more like a cross with rounded corners but with
the same reddish-orange lights. It hovered for about
two minutes, then disappeared. His four children were
"shaking in their boots" and wouldn't sleep alone that
night after seeing the UFOs, the man said.

John Gregor, operations supervisor at Brown County
Airport's control tower, said nothing unusual showed up
on radar that night. Dick Knapinski, spokesman for
Oshkosh's EAA fly-in didn't rule out a military craft.
"Who knows what they're working on undercover?"

MANITOWOC UFO FLAP ENTERS ITS SECOND WEEK

Manitowoc County in Wisconsin reported its second week of UFO sightings, with two in the vicinity of County Highway G. Manitowoc (population 32,547), a port city on Lake Michigan, is approximately 82 miles (131 kilometers) north of Milwaukee. The area has a long history of UFO activity dating back to the "airship sensation" of 1897.

On Saturday, August 9, 1997, a Franklin man and his two sons "spotted it (a UFO) from their van while driving north (at) about 11:35 p.m. on County Highway G south of Maple Grove.

The UFO hovered silently in the sky for about 15 seconds over a woods, then descended rapidly, almost as if crashing, he told the Manitowoc, Wisconsin Herald Times Reporter. He described the UFO as "large and triangular with three reddish-orange lights."

"It was the strangest thing," he said, "There was no sound. Not a cricket, not a dog, not a frog. Nothing."

At 11:55 p.m., the man's family "was sitting in its living room when his daughter saw the second UFO."

This was another triangular UFO with "rounded corners but with the same reddish-orange lights. It hovered for a few minutes, then disappeared as quickly as the first."

"I should have run and got the 35mm camera. But I was so awestruck by it," he said. (See the Manitowoc, Wisconsin Herald Times Reporter for August 8, 1997. Many thanks to Steve Wilson Sr. for this story.)

Sighting Date: 8-13-97
Williston, North Dakota (USA)
Reporter: D.K. Johnson
Experience: While looking north toward Williston, North Dakota from
Alexander, ND (about 24 miles to south) on August 13, 1997 at 11PM I
noticed a light I had seen an hour earlier and had then assumed it to be a
plane landing at Williston airport. But it was still in the same place in
the sky and not moving. About twenty degrees east of north judged by the
North star that was clearly visible and about one and three quarters fists
high above the horizon (when held at arms length).

Observed red, green and white lights alternately flashing which could have
meant the object was turning. Viewed through binoculars, lights were
intense and vivid but not appearing at once but seeming to change as if
object were rotating. Stayed motionless in sky for two hours until 1 AM
when we stopped observing. Too high for land based object, i.e. radio
tower, not a star for color changes. Observed by three other witnesses.
What was it?

MUFON IOWA INVESTIGATES SIOUX CITY SIGHTING

MUFON Iowa is currently investigating a UFO
sighting that took place in a rural area near Sioux
City, Iowa, 200 miles west of Des Moines, the
 night of August 7, 1997.
Three people were involved in the sighting--
 a 50-year-old woman, her 22-year-old son, and
 her 11-year-old grandson.
At 9:30 p.m. on August 7, the boys were
driving home when the younger one spotted a
triangular UFO in the sky. "The first triangle was
500 feet away and about 200 feet (in) altitude,"
Beverly Trout, Iowa MUFON state director reported,
"and moved parallel at about 20 miles per hour. The
60-foot triangle moved in a generally easterly direction
for about two miles, as the boys drove through Stone
Park, a heavily wooded area of hills, deep ravines and
winding roads. Eventually it crossed the road just
behind the vehicle and headed back to the west."
When they turned onto the road leading to their
farmhouse, a "strange animal" bumped into the car's
passenger door. "The boys described it as reminding
 them of a hyena."
Arriving at home, the boys told their mother/
grandmother. She responded that there were "no such
things" as UFOs. "Just then," Ms. Trout added, "the
11-year-old pointed to the southwest of their house,
and there was another triangle about 300 feet in size
about 3/4 of a mile (1.2 kilometers) and only about
500 feet (in) altitude, moving very slowly."
The UFO hovered for 15 minutes. To the west of
the house, the family noticed an "amber-colored globe
of light" in the sky, "with an apparent size of a little less
than a full moon, from which three globes emerged
(same size as the original globe), darted around, then
re-merged with the original, then faded."
Since the sighting, the younger boy has had
repeated dreams featuring "large heads with no faces."
Also, the boys did not arrive home until 10:45 p.m.,
after what should have been a 15-minute drive.
The case is being investigated by Beverly Trout,
Irene Barnes, Dr. Lawrence Lacey and MUFON
 consultant Robert Lyon.
(Editor's Comment: The previous night, August 6,
the Sioux City Police Dept. received multiple reports
of a Bigfoot on 17th Street in the city's Northside
section. See the Sioux City, Iowa Journal for
 August 9, 1997.)

THREE TRIANGULAR UFOs SEEN OVER WISCONSIN

On Friday night, August 1, 1997, Fred P. was "driving west on Highway 10 from Manitowoc, Wisconsin (population 32,547) to Brillion, Wisconsin (population 2,907) when I saw something quite unusual."
"It was almost like a mini-airshow using unusual aircraft," he reported. "There were three of them. It was quite dark, and all I could see was their light pattern, illustrated below."

    X

"Each individual craft had the above light pattern, where the X is a flashing white light, and the * are solid yellow lights...the three of them were moving quite slowly, but they did some interesting precision maneuvers." (Many thanks to Steve Wilson Sr. for this news story.)

(Reported to Minnesota MUFON)

I had a sighting on 8/26/97 at 9:05 PM in south Minneapolis.
(Witness wished to remain anonymous.)

Tonight I had a sighting in my back yard. I saw a bright light in the
sky to the east of my house at about 65 degrees up in the sky. It seemed to
be at a very high altitude. It was just as bright and looked very similar
to the planet that is in the southeastern sky. Im no astronomer, but Im
asuming it is a planet because of how bright it is.
I was out taking my dog to the bathroom and noticed this light in the
sky. I thought it was a planet, but after about a minute, it started moving
south at a very high rate of speed. I cant describe how far it moved, but
I think it was about 20 degrees across the sky and then started going
straight up until it vanished from sight.
I am only 3 miles from MSP airport and know that the people I have
told so far think it was an airplane, but it was a single light and there
were no strobes or red and green light. Also, like I had said before, It
was still for about a minute, and then move very quickly south, then
straight up until I could not see it anymore. I kept searching the sky to
see if I could see it further south but couldnt.
About one minute after i lost sight of it, I saw to more objects very
high in the sky. They looked like satellites, one moving due south and the
other moving due north. They looked like they were on the same flight path,
only going opposite directions. The one travelling north had suddenly
changed direction due west for about 10 degrees and then changed back to
due north. Its possible that its just a coincidence, and I was seeing
satellites, but I dont think so. Can you tell me if satellites travel
north-south as well as east west?

Just a little info about me.

I believe in UFO's but This is my first sighting. I am 25 years old and am
a network administrator. I dont take drugs or drink but took 400mg of
Ibuprofin tonight because I cracked a couple of ribs today. Ive been to
the doctor and I dont have a concussion or anything else to cause me to
hallucinate.

WOMAN SPOTS HOVERING UFO NEAR TWIN CITIES

      On Saturday, September 27, 1997, at 7:30 p.m.,
Crystal R. stepped out of her home in Brooklyn
 Park (population 43,332), a suburb 12 miles
(18 kilometers) northwest of the Twin Cities of
Minneapolis and St. Paul in Minnesota.
The night was rainy, and, as she halted on the
doorstep, Crystal "saw five cylindrical lights spaced
evenly apart in a circle I would estimate to be
eight to ten feet (2.5 to 3 meters) across. Lights
were pulsating on this panel around the circle.
Object hovered over the top of our large weeping
willow (tree), which is at least 30 feet (9 meters)
 high."
Crystal said she watched the object hover
"for approximately five seconds." During that time,
it "made strange low-pitched humming sounds."
She said she went back into the house for a
moment to get a drink of water and then "looked out
the front door again to see if the object was still
there. It was, so I observed it, wondering what it
was. Suddenly, it disappeared. It did not fly away
or move. It was just gone and did not reappear to
my knowledge." (Many thanks to Tim Hagemeister
 of NACOMM for this report.)

Subject: A 90-Minute Sighting Over Michigan

Colonel:

A local couple, who wish to remain nameless, have reported to me the
following sighting over SE Lower Michigan, starting at 4:00 a.m. EDT
(9:00 a.m. Zulu) on Friday morning, September 26, 1997. The weather was
very clear, there were light breezes and viewing was excellent.

The woman, who is currently enrolled in an astronomy class through one
of the local universities here, decided to put in some star-gazing time
for that class by arising early. She took binoculars with her and
stepped outside her house to watch the sky in the early morning hours of
Friday, September 26. Almost immediately her attention was drawn to the
ESE portion of the darkened sky. There she reported seeing "three stars
very close together as though they were one." She said they appeared to
be rotating very rapidly together and much brighter than ordinary stars.
She said that they cycled through the color spectrum, rapidly changing
color from red to orange, then yellow on to green, blue and indigo. Not
only did they change color rapidly, but they seemed to move from one
location in that part of the sky to another, as if jumping from spot to
spot, all the while continuing to rotate. Additionally, she said that
they appeared to be shooting out colored laser beams of light. She
watched this sight through ordinary binoculars, which allowed her to
differentiate the various spheres of light which resembled stars. This
sighting lasted from 4 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. At one point, she called her
husband to come out and watch with her, which he did for a moment or
two. However, he was too tired to stay up very long.

In his conversation with me this afternoon he said that he knew it was
not any planet or star that he was looking at, but did not know what it
was. His wife reported that, after having informed her astronomy
professor of her lengthy observation, he was likewise unable to explain
to her what it was she saw. Her husband told me that the sighting might
have been accounted for by one of two pieces of additional information
he discovered this past week:

1) He said that he found out that the Russian space station MIR had been
scheduled to pass overhead at that time, and that perhaps that was what
they were seeing;

2) Additionally, he said that he had found out that the Dominoes Pizza
Corporate Offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan had scheduled a laser light
show that evening, and that maybe they had been watching that. [Editor's
Note: I have to question why the corporate offices of a large Midwest
pizza chain would be hosting a laser light show at 4 in the morning when
very few people are up to watch it.]

If any other Michigan observers have any additional information on this
rather unusual observation, please post it here at Skywatch. Thanks.

TWO UFOs SIGHTED OVER DULUTH, MINNESOTA

      On Saturday, September 6, 1997, at 9:30 p.m.,
Van D. was sitting at home in the Morgan Park
section of Duluth, Minnesota (population 92,811),
watching a wrestling match on TV. "I looked out the
window," Van said, "And all of a sudden, I saw this
triangle-shaped aircraft. It had bright white lights at
the end of each of the corners. And in back of the
aircraft, it had red lights, sort of like the engine. So I
watched it fly across the sky not far from my house."

"I heard nothing, absolutely nothing, no noise or
anything. So then I turned and saw this other aircraft,
more like the flying saucer type. It had bright red
lights encircling the craft, and a bright white light on top.
So I watched it fly across, too. No sound at all."

Van ran upstairs to get a telescope. But, by the
time he returned, "the spaceships seemed to have
disappeared." Then, about 20 minutes later, he "saw
the saucer-shaped object flying far beyond my backyard,
but it was moving too fast for me to see anything with
 the telescope." (Email Interview)

 (Editor's Comment: Van's sighting occurred 48 hours
after I spotted two mysterious "green flashes" along the
shore and over Lake Superior near Beaver Bay,
Minnesota, 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Duluth,
 at 8:53 p.m. on Thursday, September 4.)
