National UFO Reporting Center Sighting Report Occurred : 10/25/1997 21:45 Posted : 1/28/1999 Location : Minneapolis, MN Shape, Summary : A small V of lights moving very quickly from west to east. The lights were small and round, like Christmas lights. The V was moving East to West, leading with the point. The lights were white, close to each other, and there were about 12-15 lights on each side of the V. It looked very far away, the shape was very small and the lights were quite dim. It was moving extremly fast, in less than a minute it was out of sight.
National UFO Reporting Center Sighting Report Occurred : 10/15/1997 20:00 Posted : 1/28/1999 Location : Westfeild, WI Shape : Light We were driving down the road. We saw it out of the window. we lost track of it and then saw it again whan we reached our destination. We were driving down the road, I was in the back seat of the car. It looked like it was circular, there would be a light and than right in front of it another light would appear. It looked like it was turning in the sky, the way the lights turned. About 2 minutes later we lost it, but when we reached where we were going, we could see it again. My mom, "one of the other people", said that it seemed like it followed us. When we left, about 30 minutes later, we could not see it anywhere.
National UFO Reporting Center Sighting Report Occurred : 10/10/1997 21:00 Posted : 1/28/1999 Location : Austin, MN I was traveling northbound on State Highway 105 approximately 8 miles south of Austin, MN when an object came down directly above my car. It scared the living daylights out of me. I drove off the road cause I couldn't see in front of me whe I came to a stop. The object was still there. I can't say what it looked like because it was so bright I couldn't look directly at it. It was dead silent, didn't make a sound nor did it move. I would say it stayed there for a good half hour or so, then it shot straight up. Anyways I'm sure it did because if it took off at an angle I would have gotten a good look at it.
10/10/97 S. Minneapolis MA1 This witness contacted Craig Lang following the February MN MUFON meeting, to report a number of anomalous activities. These included a nocturnal light sighting observed in a northward direction from the approximate area of the 35E/35W junction at the northward side of the cities. The witness, his wife, and his daughter, were driving north on Oct 10, 1997, at about 7:30 PM, when they observed a bright light to the NNE of them, at an intermediate elevation. They watched it appear to hover for a few minutes, then dim, and turn to a red blinking light, moving from E to W. [CL Note: some of this description appears to suggest an outbound aircraft from the Grantsburg, WI airport. - This possibility is being considered, although the witness does not feel that this explanation is adequate]. The witness has also described a series of close encounters throughout his life, which will be described in deatil at a future time. Some of these events appear to have multiple witnesses, and involve historical sighting cases in northwestern WI. This investigation is ongoing.
UFO Over Lake Superior Sunday, October 5, 1997 On November 1, 1997 I received the following UFO report from Thunderbay, Ontario. This is how the witness described the event to me: I saw something strange in the sky, but it didn't frighten me. It was rather peculiar though, so I'm going to attempt to describe it: I was driving down Fort William road when I saw a large object in the sky, which appeared to be near the Ontario tax building. At first I thought it was plane, but it suddenly dived from the sky to a lower altitude (much fastere than a plane). I looked at it more carefully, although it was lower on the horizon. It was shaped like an eliptical ball, and it was white like a cloud. I thought that maybe it was a cloud, but then it moved across the sky in such an unatural manner that it couldn't have been. It was heading across Lake Superior, so I drove to the Marina to see if I could see it. I lost track of it, it must have been traveling at a very high speed. I went home and told a few people, but no one was impressed by my story or even interested. It seemed unimpressive, after all it was broad daylight. This all happened October 5th around 3:00 pm. If you have any additional information please contact me asap. From: [email protected] Subject: FireBall report Sighting date: Oct. 2, 1997, 7:20pm Location: Between MPLS & St.Paul, MN After reading the observation by tracerbob from July 26, 1997, I wish to report a similar experience. My 8 year old daughter and I were in between Minneapolis and St. paul at a shopping center ambling westward. The sky was clear blue, it was about 81 degrees out at 7:20 p.m. right as the sun was setting. There was a long diagonally slanted (from top left to lower right @ 45 degrees) red and orange fireball-like line of color descending rapidly at that angle. Therewas no ball to speak of at what would be the front. At first I thought it was a meteorite burning up as it hit the atmosphere, but the intensity of the glow did not vary all the way until it dropped out of sight in the distance. Many other planes were in the sky and it was not an aircraft, simply a long streaking line of color. The northern lights are happening I guess, and it is a good time for star watching but I've seen the Northern Lights once and shooting stars and this was something completely different. As we watched the first line of color go down on the horizon, my daughter saw another going up (bottom left to top right 45 degrees) which was a much shorter line which disappeared much quicker. This convinced me that it was something which was not easily explained. Anybody have any ideas as to what it may have been? Northern Lights or something? Jon
UFO SEEN BY MOTORIST OVER GACKLE, NORTH DAKOTA On October 3, 1997, at 10:23 p.m., Lee M. Droney of Fargo, North Dakota, was driving on Interstate Highway I-94 a half-mile (0.8 kilometers) west of Gackle, N.D. (population 456) when he spied a UFO. Droney reported seeing "a meteorite-like object off to the left appeared to stop and hover...The car radio seemed to (suddenly) go out of range. There were other vehicles on the road at the time which could have seen the object." (See Filer's Files #40 for October 10, 1997) Gackle is located on North Dakota Highway 46 approximately 126 miles (202 kilometers) southwest of Fargo. (Many thanks to George A. Filer of MUFON for this report.)

National UFO Reporting Center Sighting Report Occurred : 11/17/1997 02:00 Posted : 1/28/1999 Location : Sioux Falls, SD Summary : Giant white streak moving across the sky at a high rate of speed stopped and took a 90 degree turn and went straight up and eventually vanished into the night sky. It changed colors from a brilliant white to a pale bluish hue. We were driving along Highway 11 at about 2 am at a rate of 55 miles per hour. In the northeast quadrant we saw a bright white object that caught our eye because it was moving very quickly. it moved from the east to the west and stopped on a dime it looked to be enormous and might have been seen from quite a distance . We pulled the car over and got out to view it better. The object while it was stopped, changed from the bright white light we originally saw changed to a bluish hue. It looked as though it was hovering over or near EROS Data Center. The cows in the field on the east side of the road seemed to be come nervous and start walking around. The object then darted off at a 90 degree angle and went straight up until it vanished.
UFO SPOTTED BY TRIO NEAR BROOKSTON, MINNESOTA On Saturday, November 15, 1997, at 4:45 p.m., Dave Briscoe and two companions were out in the field near Brookston, Minnesota (population 450), a town on U.S. Route 2 about 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of Duluth. "It does get dark real early up here," Skywatch member Dave Briscoe reported, "and Venus can be seen early, but this was the wrong place for Venus. The object was in the west-southwest (over the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation--J.T.) and extremely bright for the time of day. As I watched it, it veered to the left and right slightly, and then split in two. Both objects 'danced' in the sky, always the same distance from each other, first up, down, left and right. They then merged and were stationary (hovering) for the next five minutes." "Again splitting and remaining stationary, then recombining and moving slightly to the left, then slightly to the right." The trio watched the "pulsating light" for about twenty minutes "until clouds moved into the area, and it became undiscernable." He estimated the object's position at 72 degrees above the horizon." (Email Interview) (Editor's Comment: Chalk up another UFO sighting for the Lake Superior region. The last one was on October 5, 1997 over Thunder Bay, Ontario.) (UFOROUNDUP)
"SEATTLE LIGHTS" SEEN IN IOWA THE SAME NIGHT On Friday, November 14, 1997, a witness was driving on Interstate Highway 80, just south of Brooklyn, Iowa (population 1,509), a town 64 miles (102 kilometers) east of Des Moines, when he spotted a few miles away "a horizontal row of seven or more steady white lights at about 40 degrees up from the horizon ascending at a 15-degree angle from the southeast to the northwest." The sighting took place at 7:30 p.m. Central time, four hours before the "Seattle Lights" event. "The lights would have crossed his path of travel if the 100 foot (30 meter) long object turned sharply and headed back east-southeast at a steeply-descending angle--almost in a dive. When the object tilted, showing one end lower than the other, he could see a portion of the surface illuminated by lights. At that point, the object was a quarter-mile south of I-80...He drove at 65 miles per hour to the end of the row of trees, at the end of which he expected to see the object sitting in the field. But when he reached that point, he saw that the object had simply disappeared." (Many thanks to Beverly Trout of Iowa MUFON for this report.) TWO COLLEGE STUDENTS SEE UFO OVER AMES, IOWA On Tuesday night, November 11, 1997, two college students driving back to Ames, Iowa (population 45,775), a city on Highway 69 about 28 miles (45 kilometers) north of Des Moines, spotted a strange object in the sky. The pair from Iowa State University "saw a dark orange/amber globe of light at about 40 degrees up from the horizon, to the left of the roadway. At first they thought the light was resting on a 100-foot water tower nearby, but this proved not to be the case. They proceeded west and caught sight of a full circular orb now ahead of them and moving very fast. The object finally began to sink below the horizon, and the two men watched it disappear from view." (Many thanks to Beverly Trout of Iowa MUFON for this report.)
Subject: (UFOSSI) Sighting Report Witness: "Old Wolf"Date of Sighting: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 Subject: UFO Sighting report Saw something in the sky this evening at 4:45pm and even though it does get dark up here real early and Venus can be seen early, this was in the wrong place for Venus. The object was WSW and extreamly bright for the time of day. As I watched it it veared to the left and right slightly, and then split in two. Both objects then "danced" in the sky always the same distance from each other, but up, down, left and right. They then merged and became one again and was stationary for the next 5 minutes. Again splitting and remaining stationary, then recombining and moving slightly to the left and then to the right. Becoming brighter still, it looked like a pulsating light orb. After 21 minutes the clouds moved into the area and it became unobservable. Distance was unmeasurable, it was approximatly 72 degrees with relation to the ground, and there are 2 other witnesses. Local police were notified but no report was filed - they know me as that crackpot. Exact location where I observed this object is 92 degrees 20 minutes X 46 degrees 50 minutes. National UFO Reporting Center Sighting Report Occurred : 11/2/1997 18:50 Posted : 1/28/1999 Location : Green Bay, WI Summary : A loose formation of 3 orange non-blinking lights observed slowly crossing evening sky. A formation of 3 orange non-blinking lights was observed 11/02/97 18:50 Green Bay, WI When first spotted by my mother[49], they were in a roughly triangular formation, moving slowly east. She called for me to come outside and look at somthing. I went out and watched them for about 5 minutes until the upper two were slowly enveloped in the cloud cover. I went inside and got my SLR camera & 400mm lens. I went back out and looked at the remaining light, but the strong lens showed revealed no shape behind the light. The other two lights now began to emerge from the clouds and the formation of the three was now close to linear and vertical. I would estimate their distance to be about 2-3 miles. I couldn't tell if they were making any sound because a helicopter was hovering 1.3 miles to the west, over the football stadium. The orange lights had no accompanying aircraft-style strobes or red/blue positioning lights. They did not move constantly, as a sattelite would and! the cloud cover was dense enough to obscure anything that high or faint. I am 34 and I am quite familiar with the way civil and military aircraft move. These lights moved similarly to helicopters, but had no regulation lights and didn't generate the sounds that a group of 3 military helicopters would make. I asked a neighbor to look at them. He did, but looked for 3 seconds, said "Oh, airplanes", and went back inside. I was looking for film inside for 2 minutes and when I went back outside, the 3 lights had vanished.
Sighting Date: 12/9/97 7:23am CST Sighting Location: Cloquet, MN I have been searching thru the internet on many websites for UFO sightings trying to find pictures similar to the object that I have seen. I think that I have finally been successful. It was a picture of a black ' V ' which had been given the name of " Leviathan ". The short article said that there had been several sightings in March of 1997 in Arizona. Have there been any reported sightings in Minnesota? My sighting was on Tuesday, December 9, 1997, at 7:23 AM. I am employed by the xxxxxx Corporation as a Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Department and was on my way to work. The object was a ways above the tree line looking out over the St. Louis River in Cloquet, Minnesota. The object just appeared all of sudden in my field of vision, traveling from east to west, and lasting for only about 2 seconds in time (tho it seemed longer, I'm sure it was not) and just as suddenly disappeared. It was positioned on it's side so that one had the full affect of the ' V ' shape. The pictures that I saw of the Leviathan showed sets of circular lights on the bottom of the craft but if my memory serves me correctly, I thought the craft had square sets of lights with one set at the end of each section of the V, and one set about midway, but I am unable to recall if there were any lights near the point of the ' V ' or not. The craft appeared to me to be huge, but I have no way to really judge that as I had no way to tell it's distance from me or how high above the ground it was. I would be very interested in hearing more about this craft & if any other reports have been filed. I should have reported this sooner but all of this is quite new to me. I wasn't even sure who to contact or who was safe to contact, but thought I would take a chance when I found info on the Minnesota MUFON. I hope the Date of 12/09 is correct as I never docu- mented it. I never thought I would need it for future reference. It may have been later in December but I feel that the 9th is correct or very close to the date that I saw it.
